Flood Symbols

SEPA uses flood warning symbols when predicting the likelihood of flooding. They have been designed to be easy to understand and make it clear what action you should take. Please familiarise yourself with the symbols and what they mean.

Flood Alerts are issued when flooding is expected. They are for the wider geographical area and prompt you to remain vigilant.

Flooding is expected, immediate action required

Flood Warnings are issued for areas where SEPA has the available technology to predict imminent flooding in smaller, more targeted community areas.

Severe Flood Warning

Severe flooding, danger to life

Severe Flood Warnings are issued when there is severe flooding imminent which will cause a significant risk to life and disruption to essential services such as water and electricity supplies.

No longer in force message

A no longer in force message is issued when no more flooding is anticipated.
